We are delighted to announce that Jeremy Gordon, Chief Executive of China Business Services, has been appointed to the Committee of the 48 Group Club.

The Club was established following a ground-breaking trade mission to China by 48 UK companies in 1954. The Icebreakers have been at the forefront of UK-China business and trade relations ever since, and maintain close relations with Chinese government and business leaders.

On his recent State visit to the UK, President Hu Jintao met with the Clubs representatives including the President, Stephen Perry. President Hu, in his speech at the Guildhall, gave credit to the Clubs work and noted that:

In the 1950s, a group of far-sighted people from the British business community overcame one obstacle after another, and made the famous ice-breaking trip to China, thus starting business exchanges with the newly-founded Peoples Republic. Today, more than 50 years later, it is important that the business communities of our two countries carry on the pioneering spirit of those who broke ice

The Club runs a number of information and networking events, including the Icebreaker Lecture series (recently including talks by the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Wolf, and by the Chinese Minister of Education, Zhou Ji), and the famous, annual Chinese New Year Dinner (to be held at the Guildhall in London on January 19th 2006 heralding the Year of the Dog).
