Don’t Quote Me (On IPR Abuse)
Here is the latest in our little series of comments worthy of noting and quoting…It comes from Ekkehard Rathgeber, Preseident of Bertelsmann Direct Group Asia. He had the following to say about the perspective of Chinese officials in rural areas in relation to intellectual property abuses:
“My people are poor; people in western China are making RMB200 (US$24) per month. Now a bunch of foreigners want me to protect their Gucci handbags? I couldn’t care less.”
I suspect this is the much the same view they take towards the fake Kenny G CDs biting into Bertelsmann’s China revenues!

More on recent IPR news can be seen at: http://www.chinabusinessservices.com/blog/?p=309. The post make it clear that enforcement of IP rights is generally improving. This is especially true in the big cities like Beijing and Shanghai, where the views expressed above are now rather less likely to be found.
