Competition: Too Hot to Handle
China is an intensely competitive place to do business, and this has been well illustrated by the state of the air-conditioning market. A recent report noted that 27 brands of air-conditioner have disappeared in 2005. Of the remaining 69 brands, 48 have an individual market share of less than 1 percent in major cities, while the top 4 brands (Haier, Midea, Gree and Chigo) now control 54 percent of the market.
