China news, unlike a Chinese river, never runs dry. This week’s review of last week’s (tweeted) news touches on the increasingly sensitive issue of (possibly under-reported) inflation, the figures behind the fears (is the CPI basket fit for purpose), and looks at some possible policy responses. Also covered is investment, both inward FDI (up 7.9% in October, and with an official stamp of M&A approval for Diageo) and outward ODI & M&A (with a detailed report). The end-of-year, annual reviews kick off with some reminiscences on economic crimes and corruption; a US survey highlights barriers to market, and we include a report on technology transfer risks. We finish up with a nice piece from China Law Blog on intellectual (lost) property, and some “imaginative” financial reporting associated with US-listed Chinese companies.
