China is Everywhere (in London)

Chinese products have been everywhere for some time, and Chinese companies are popping up from America to Africa, but (in London at any rate) the number of visits by government and business delegations is constantly increasing.

In the last month alone, I have seen a huge delegation from Jiangsu [1](including a separate seminar with government and business leaders from Wuxi); had lunch with the Jilin Party Secretary and accompanying delegation; seen the new (and very engaging) Chinese Ambassador, Fu Ying [2], officiate at two events (one of which related to China Now [3]); met entrepreneur Derek Ling (of Tianji.com [4], who was promoting a link-up with Viadeo.com [5]), the Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre [6](the impossibly energetic Christopher To), and, yesterday, Liu Mingkang (Chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission [7]) and Hu Shuli (Editor of Caijing Magazine [8]), both of whom were speaking at the excellent Westminster Hearings [9].

A Liaoning delegation is in London as I write, Chongqing is in town next week, when the China Venture Capital and Private Equity Forum [10] will also be held…If you add the fact that two other big events – with Liu Qi ( the Beijing Party Secretary) and Bo Xilai, (Mininster of Commerce – who was in London for the Joint Economic and Trade Commission talks) were cancelled, it is clear that China is firmly on the agenda in the UK.

Given that there is also a lot of work to be done, keeping all of these things “blogged” is a challenge. Some reports will however make it onto these pages…
