Official Service. With a Smile

Chinese immigration seems to be investing in customer service. Every passport control booth at Beijing Capital airport has now been fitted with a gizmo that allows the lowly traveler to record how delighted (smiley face icon) or depressed (sad face icon) they are with the service received.

I think this investment is right up there with the traffic lights that include a digital clock to tell you how long you have to wait before advancing to the traffic jam on the other side. A waste of money one might think (better spent on creating a harmonious society). And of time – when clearly everyone is stuck in a massive snaking queue. Still, I would advise against giving a negative report. Just in case!

And while on the subject of the airport…there were also defined security channels for people traveling to the US. Is some security more equal than others? I think we should be told!
