The Past, Present & Future of GDP Growth

Following last year’s post-census announcement that GDP growth had been under-stated, new figures have been released, together with estimates of future growth – which would see China’s economy overtaking those of France and Britain this year.

Chinese GDP Growth

  • 1979-2004: 9.6 percent p.a. average
  • 2004: 10.1 percent (up from 9.5 percent)
  • 2005: 9.8 percent (estimated)
  • 2006: 8.7 percent (estimated)
  • The revised 1994 figure put GDP at RMB15.9878 trillion (USD 1.9 trillion), 16.8 per cent up on than the original figure.
